Around Crakehall VillageCrakehall is claimed to be one of the prettiest villages in the Dales. The village green, just 5 minutes walk from Crakehall Watermill, is overlooked by the imposing manor house, St Gregory's Church, the Bay Horse pub and a well stocked local shop. The village cricket and quoits teams often play on the green in this beautiful setting during the summer. Things To Do & Places to Visit:We are ideally situated for exploring the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, with easy access from the A1. Bedale - historic market town withnin 2 miles, weekly market on Tuesdays, various events during the year. Masham - interesting market town with a selection of art galleries, delicatessen and 2 breweries: Black Sheep Brewery & Theakston Brewery both now have visitor centres. Richmond - With its Norman castle, Georgian architecture and thriving theatre, Richmond is also on the long distance Coast to Coast route. Thirsk - a market town of particular association with James Herriot and nearby The Mouseman Centre at Kilburn - fine crafted furniture in traditional and contemporary designs and with the famous mouse symbol hand carved on every item. Thorp Perrow Arboretum & Woodland Garden - beautiful setting with one of the finest collections of trees and shrubs in the country and of interest all year round. Wensleydale Railway - runs from Leeming Bar, via Bedale to Leyburn and beyond which can be linked in with a walk from Redmire to visit ancient Castle Bolton. Trains run all year with special seasonal events. Constable Burton Hall Gardens - well known for its spectacular spring displays. Aerial Extreme - tree top adventure course. Big Sheep Little Cow - farm attraction of interest to families. Forbidden Corner - a fascinating folly. Walking & Cycling - plenty of choices in the vicinity or take the bike on the Wensleydale Railway and cycle further up into the Dales. Good bus links for those who wish to leave their car at Watermill House. Good transport links to York, Durham, Newcastle. Horse Racing at Ripon, Thirsk, Catterick. Also, a number of golf courses at Bedale and Richmond. A selection of National Trust and English Heritage properties.
